From time to time I get calls from CEO's asking me if they can pick my brain for a few minutes... For the most part, I agree that business owners are bright, energetic souls, who love to learn! CEO's by nature are leaders! They are smart, often egotistical, and driven by results. After all, that is how they become CEO's and business owners.
Our conversations typically go like this... For the first 2 minutes, the CEO diagnosis the problem about their marketing and what is wrong. For the next 7 minutes, I ask a series of questions about their business, marketing, and unique selling proposition. Here's a sample of some of the questions I ask.

Firing a NON performing marketing executive
So you say you need to fire your marketing executive? Hold your horses, we'll get to that. But first, let's address the real issues.
1. You are not happy with sales...
2. You think the marketing isn't effective...
THOSE ARE THE ISSUES MOST LIKELY... after all, would you be looking to fire your marketing executive if sales were up? Doubtful!
But here is the problem with what you're about to do. You are the CEO and you're about to fire someone whom you probably haven't given clear cut goals. It is accountability that is the problem.
